Narrow Streets | Los Angeles
David Yoon is an urban planner, designer, photographer and part-time writer working in Southern California. After a trip to Paris, David found himself overly aware of the width of the streets of Los Angeles in comparison to Parisian streets. And, as any good urban planner would do, he set out to understand the urban differences. He began by digitally manipulating photos of intersections and streetscapes to appear much smaller than they were. These manipulated photos show how the difference of subtracting several lanes of highway is immense. His urban speculations are inviting, allowing elements of human scale to take the center stage.
I applaud David’s effort and technique. Admittedly, I have now begun to look at my neighboring streetscapes with new eyes. If you wish to look at how David creates his work, he has gracefully shared a video of his process here. You can keep up to date with David’s latest urban ventures at his blog called Narrow Streets.
