Our very talented author and fashion extraordinaire, Gretchen Jones [www] will be taking a break from this week’s fashion posting due to her recent casting in Project Runway: Season 8 [www]. The show is scheduled to start this week on Thursday at 9pm ET on the Lifetime network. Stay tuned as Gretchen will be back next week for a new round of great fashion inspiration.
I LOVE Mara Hoffman, maybe not in the romantic way, but in all other ways I am completely smitten. Be it her incredible textiles, bohemian inspired cuts, hippy chic styling or…her amazingly stunning studio and house!? I find her approach to fashion refreshing, romantic and fun. Taking inspiration from the global blanket of culture and color, Hoffmans designs are bright, graphic and vivid. I enjoy each season the same way children enjoy a candy store. And more than anything, I appreciate her hands on approach. You can feel her presence within each artful piece and can tell she designs not just for the runway, but her own wardrobe. Which any young designer can take note from.

It’s not that often you come across a modern craftswoman. One whom forges her own designs from beginning to end creating simply unique and truly special pieces. In an era of hunt and gather, deconstruct and reconstruct and found object[ions] it’s refreshing to stumble across a modern renaissance woman. Who’s hands and heart are every bit a part of the creation. Ninh Wysocan [www] is one such designer. Wysocan individually layers metal chains, rings, unique casts and hand-crocheted silver and gold chains and often times oxidizes it all…creating asymmetrical shapes that are one part bold, one part delicate. A favorite on the runway and darling of the media Ninh Wysocan is truly an inspiration to a design community begging for more hand craft and less mass production.
