Time-lapse video has definitely been overdone and when done well still struggles to keep one’s attention. While Mindrelic’s video of Manhattan can lose you at points, I feel it is overall well done and entertaining. The use of panning shots really takes the normal time-lapse shot to another level of depth. Using the busy subject of Manhattan is a no-brainer, but the quality and quantity of shots throughout the city really steals the show. The great folks at Everynone have reworded their original production entitled “Words”, which captured our attention as an inspiring video mix. This edit, “Re-Words” is produced completely from clips found on YouTube and compiled to create another stunning video that embodies the art of living. Working Girl is a contemporary art video that embodies issue’s of subjectivity, repetition, and feminism with qualities of watching a 1950’s vintage advert. The repetitive playback along with the voiceless characters creates an uneasy ‘Lynchian’ type atmosphere but quickly becomes uniquely hers. Her other films, found here [www], also contain elements of this one, however I am still convinced this is her best work. I applaud the simplicity in her stage designs and the raw attitude contained in her work. My only wish is that I could find a higher quality version on the web.
